Why Sure GuardTM by Ambis Digital Mouth Guard, Inc.
· Developed by practicing dentists who were collegiate champion hockey and football players Dr. Ed Ambis, Cornell ‘72, payed on the 1970 undefeated NCAA championship ice hockey team and later on the USA National team. He was inducted into the ECAC Hall of Fame. He has always been a sports enthusiast and became concerned that stock over-the-counter mouth guards were not protecting athletes and leaving them open to many different injuries: chipped teeth, broken teeth, avulsed teeth, and associated head and neck traumatic injuries. Most mouth guards were either non-protective or grossly uncomfortable. As team dentist to Cornell’s hockey teams Dr. Ambis spent years developing his patented protective mouth guard designed for comfort as well ultimate protection.
Dr. James Waite, Cornell ‘73, played on the undefeated 1968 Kentucky State championship football team and as a three year letterman, on the 1971 Cornell Ivy League Championship team. He is a member of the Highlands High School Hall of Fame and the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame. He coached and refereed youth football for over 15 years and served as camp director for Richie Moran’s Quick Stick Lacrosse Camp at Cornell University.
· Digital design ensures comfortable custom fit Sure, you want the mouth guard to be protective but if it isn’t comfortable players either do not wear it or constantly put it in and out. SureGuard’s comfortable fit ensures it will be in the player’s mouth and not stuck in their belt or between their facemask and helmet. (JMW note: I kept mine in my sock.)
· Digital design ensures custom secure fit - cannot be dislodged Not only is SureGuard comfortable, it fits securely so that it cannot be dislodged. It stays put - protecting the athlete in all circumstances.
· Digital design retains normal phonetics and speech pattern Some coaches have commented that lacrosse has become a “silent” game since all players wear mouth guards. Sure Guard’s secure fit and comfort allow for natural phonetics and speech. No reason to constantly take it in and out just to talk. Players in football, soccer, hockey, and lacrosse, as well as others, need to communicate. Poor mouth guards render them “silent sports”.
· Secure and comfortable custom fit with normal phonetics and speech patterns increases compliance and eliminates the need or desire for the player to remove the mouth guard No mouth guard is protective if not in the mouth. Sure Guard’s proven patented (US# 7882839) technology increases compliance with its comfortable, secure fit and allows the mouth guard to deliver the unrivaled protection custom built into every SureGuard mouth guard. |

Preformed Mouth Guards are the cheapest alternative and are often the choice for athletes just trying to meet the league, school, or sport standard for having a mouth guard regardless of its protective properties. A major manufacturer claims “instant fit”, “superior protection”, “concussion and jaw joint protection”, yet the reality is the out of the package appliance does not fit, so how much protection does it provide? It just lays on the teeth until biting pressure is applied but then the sides deform and jut out into the tongue space causing discomfort. Eventually scissors are employed to cut away the offending areas and the mouth guard loses what protective properties it may have had. No mouth guard is protective if it is not in intimate contact with the structures it claims to protect and resists dislodgement. Sure Guard’s patented design and processing techniques assure comfort, function, and protection are built into every appliance. |

|
Traditional custom made mouth guards barely cover the teeth and are sometimes not well adapted to the dentition. This allows the wearer to flip the mouth guard out with their tongue and begin to chew on the mouth guard and deform it, a cycle to poorer fit and more deformation. The wearer then usually starts to trim the mouth guard of deformed segments with scissors, decreasing any protective benefits. The looser adaptation is a result of the processing techniques. |

Traditional Custom Made Mouth Guard |

|
The traditional process of sucking a heated sheet of mouth guard material over top of a model actually results in a pulling of the material away from the model at the edges creating a gap. Mouth Guard Myth: “If the mouth guard is smaller, it will be more comfortable” As participants trim the mouth guard it becomes more mobile, more obnoxious, and less protective. Sure Guard’s secure fit eliminates the desire or need to trim. |
